pburrows Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 I need a couple of new leads. These look good for the money. Anyone used em? http://www.kirlincable.co.uk/c/guitar-cables_fabric-series Quote
EBS_freak Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Fabric cables are generally bad news in my experience... play one grotty venue and they pick up the dirt and are impossible to clean up. At least with rubber insulated cable, you can get a cloth and some washing up liquid and clean them all up. Quote

pburrows Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 I meant generally. The company. The ranges of cables. They look like the prices are low but from the pics they look well made. The other ranges look interesting for the price. Quote
EBS_freak Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Ah, OK, can't really tell how well they are made from the pics... you need to see under the plugs and check the quality of the soldering and heat shrink (if there is any). Maybe worth taking a punt for the money if you have an interest in them... and then report back! Quote

Always my preferred choice is to go for Neutrik jack plugs on cables. Edited March 30, 2017 by mybass Quote
Matt P Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 they look ok for the money but personally having repaired many leads over the years i'm wary of anything that doesn't have good strain relief, the neutrik design is my favorite, yet to have a failure in about 15 years of normal use. i'm surprised no-one has mentioned OBBM and his rock-wire range of cables, no where near as cheap as the ones you've linked to but they're as tough as they come and made to the exact length you want. http://bassic-bits.co.uk/ Matt Quote
Andytre Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Can't go wrong with Neutrik we must have 500+ Neutrik connector cables where i work some have been going for 15 years Quote
BigRedX Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 +1 for Neutrik plugs and OBBM's cables. I have cables that I made up over 30 years ago with Neutrik connectors on them that are still going strong. My last lot of new cables were made for me by OBBM in 2010. Not a single one has shown any sign of unreliability despite having been been gigged heavily for the last 6 years. Quote

[/quote] Its cos he asked for an opinion on a specific make of cable. Ask about a Ford and somebody rabbiting on about a Renault isn't particularly helpful! Have to agree though, if you want a decent cable, you'd be hard pushed to beat the handiwork of OBBM. Quote

BigRedX Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 IMO there are only two reasons not to be using OBBM for all your cable requirements. 1. You have both the time and expertise to be able to produce your own leads to the same high specification as OBBM. 2. You require something very specialised from either a visual or connector PoV that OBBM cannot supply at a competitive price. Quote
JohnR Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 A big plus one for OBBM from me. Great service. Quote

lee650 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Definitely! Spend a little bit more and get OBBM 😁 Quote
goblin Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 If you're good with a soldering iron (and a good soldering iron at that!) and have access to good materials, make them yourself. I'm in the process of making a batch of leads for various people, similar to what OBBM does with specific length and specialist leads such as wireless pack leads etc. I'm using Sommer Spirit cable and Neutrik connectors and won't touch anything less. I imagine the leads will be lasting people a long time if they look after them, and I'm going to be using them myself too which is always a safe starting point. Otherwise, go to OBBM. His prices are very fair and he's got a great response on here! Quote
TrevorR Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 They look pretty but what others say about fabric is true. I must admit my first thought was the jacks look cheap compared to Neutriks. You get what you pay for, I guess. Another vote for OBBM. Quote
