Fisheth
Lakland/Maruszczyk I think. Ibanez also have some great value fivers, especially used. Edited April 2, 2017 by Fisheth
chris_b
If I might suggest a Fender American Standard Jazz V http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
Len_derby
Lucky you! My two gigging 5 stringers are a Warwick Corvette and a Yamaha TRB. Both good, in their different ways and together cost less than £900 (both being 'pre-loved'). I've never tried a Fender 5 stringer that wasn't underwhelming, although I've never tried one of the high priced ones.
stingrayPete1977
If I might suggest a Fender American Standard Jazz V http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
Not active though, but a preamp makes them stonking, I use my 2013 alongside a £2300 Musicman happily at most gigs
chris_b
Not active though,
True, but the best sounding bass I have is my passive PJ5 so pre amps aren't the only way to get a great sound. On the other hand a great bass and a pre amp upgrade could be a winning combination.
stingrayPete1977
I just can't get on with passive basses, I don't think they suit my amps tbh. I was happy with everything else on the bass, it's great now.
Rich
If you can track down a pre-enjoyed Yamaha TRB-5P, grab it with both hands. Fantastic instruments.

Paulhauser
Although it is at the top end (or maybe over) of your budget, I'd buy a used Spector Euro5. One of the best value modern sounding 5 strings out there. Also quite easy to flip if it turns out it is not your thing.

dyerseve
Status Series 1 = lightweight, lovely thin fast neck, superbly balanced, very low action, versatile, sounds great, comfortable. Used around £6-700. Out of all my basses, this is my go-to bass

I've not played one, but everything I've read suggests that the US versions are better all round than the Tributes. Whether those differences are worth around £600 depends on your own views I suppose. It's a nice colour though...
dannybuoy
The soon-to-be-released updated Yamaha BB lineup features an active model in their mid-range price tier, I'd expect it to be under £800: http://youtu.be/eDslUlL_j7Y
