A few conflicting dates online but anywhere between now and thre 8th will do. How good is that? 40 years ago and still relevant today! Truly an immense band!

A massive influence on me, The Clash, my second favourite band of all time. I still listen to them regularly. Seeing Paul Simenon with that low slung Precision bass stoked my early interest in the instrument.

I always thought that their debut album was let down a bit by the production though, despite the energy and the great songs. If only it'd had the same punch and edge that Bill Price and Chris Thomas gave to Never Mind The Bollocks...

I saw them back then in '77. I was at college in London and they played a gig at the LSE. Strummer walked on a said something like 'all students are pigs' and spat into the audience. It all went rather wrong after that. Retrospectively I like what they did and a lot of punk but, at the time, I was firmly in the 'they can't even play their instruments' camp. :)

For Bands that couldn't play, they and the Pistols made pretty good 1st Albums.

I'm not sure they are "still relevant today"? to those that have always liked them but I doubt many young people know who they are.

Awaits the "my daughter loves them!" Comments, well they will if they've been bought up on them.

My Daughter hates them and has been brought up on them (she's 21 now) I guess it's bit of that old cliche of your parents music not being cool, at least until you reach a certain age, or then again it's the shouty Joe Strummer she always complains about :)

I tried my kids on punk but no joy and completely failed to be excited by New Rose and what followed. They do however like RATM and Limp Biskit so not entirely a wasted experience.

The epitome!

This is back in Paul's possession now, he's got in on display in his house.

strangely although I was into punk from the start I never got into the Clash till a few years later, still don't know why, cracking band and a great debut LP, as was the next one, London Calling was a tad too eclectic for me

Probably because most punk records from that era sound pretty tame compared with what's available today in various genres of metal and rap.

Lyrically, I meant really but after a load of beer I just got too excited!

I always preferred the US release of the album as that came with Whiteman in Hammersmith Palais, Clash City Rockers and Complete Control on it but Deny, Cheat, Protex Blue and 48 Hours were not, looking at them both side by side they were very different albums

Looking at the dates the US version wasn't released until 1979
