blank20
Hi I'm considering buying hollow body guitar for jazz. I'm looking for something cheap and warm. I found two Ibanez https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AF75TRS https://musicsquare.co.uk/164242_Ibanez-AS-53-TF-ARTCORE-electric-guitar.html I also found this one, but I dont know anything about this brand https://reverb.com/item/3377301-used-carlo-robelli-el-500-jazzbox-hollowbody-electric-guitar-sunburst-made-in-korea What do You think about this Carlo Robelli? ezbass
Looks nice and reminiscent of the Vintage brand jazz box. I prefer a jazz box to have a floating, single pickup and scratch plate mounted controls, although Joe Pass seems to have done fine with body mounted hardware. RhysP
The Carlo Robelli looks nice enough if you can find one in the UK. shipping & import costs will push the price up considerably, and if it's got any woods that are covered by the CITES regulations that will add moe expense again. ezbass
There's always the single cut version of that Ibanez http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=13120714180658 and if you can go the extra £s the George Benson is rather nice http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=04030414375318 As to a double cutaway semi, you really can't go wrong with the Epiphone 335. dlloyd
Ibanez are consistently good. I have a mid-range Ibanez jazz box (AFJ95)... it's as good a guitar as I'll need and has good quality hardware that won't need replaced. You'll get something playable at the price point you've quoted. It won't sound terrible and it'll look the part. You'll notice a difference between it and mid/high range guitars, but it won't be enormous. You will need to amplify it to play live. The warm tone that you hear in amplified jazz guitar is mostly the result of using the neck pickup with the tone rolled off and has little to do with the shape of the guitar.
