Looking at their other instruments (no more basses), this ebay shop seems very big on bigging up their instruments for sale. Is there a touch of hyperbole here?

2 of my fave parts.

"his is one of the bewt deals I've come across in a long time. It's very similar to a Stagg bass but they don't do this finish and for some reason this one feels a lot better. Also it's not £179 like the Stagg !!"

Competing with Stagg :)

"We never lie about stock in order to get folks to make quick decisions, it's still a lot of money to a lot of people but really guys, this is it !! we have no more and are unlikely to get any more at this price. It seems products are going up left right and centre so NOW is the time !!"

We have all seen bass prices rising.....

It is - always thought that basic design would be a nice basis for a project. Interesting point - these (or at least the Stagg-badged version) were around for 2 or 3 years before the Fender Jaguar bass.

And a quick Google turns up a natural/maple board version for £139:

Much nicer. And 2 minutes with a bit of wet & dry and you've got a blank headstock. :)
Yes, but the Stagg doesn't have about 10 mystery switches on it like the Fender does. The Fender that GAK sells appears to have Jazz bass style single coil pickups and is passive. So what is it that all those switches do?
Havn't looked at GAK's descrition, but the Fender Jag has active and passive switching. It also has series / parrallel switching from memory (like the S1 switch on the US Jazz). The switching is a bit confusing though, and on the couple I've played, I've not got on with it at all.

My mistake, they have it in their 4 string passive category, but do mention that it has active/passive switching. They also say "Bassists too can now be blinded by the chrome and have more switches and dials than Mission Control at their disposal."
