fftc Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 OK, I know it's essentially an oxymoron given why Leo gave it the name he did, but my question stands. What options are there for a fretless Precision? And when I say Precision I mean Precision sized neck, no PJ pickups or any other aberrations. Just a standard Precision bass but without frets. I have found one so far. Most of the others have either a jazzy neck, or a jazzy pickup or something else decidedly non-precisiony. Help me please. Quote
Steve Browning Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 You just want a bog standard Precision fretless. None of this Tony Franklin business. There are a number of different types. I have had a rosewood board one and now have a natural with a maple board. I think you may be looking at a second hand one rather than new but then I am not hugely up to date. I don't know how you stand on lines (cheating :-) ) as they seem to be lined these days. Quote
Grangur Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Here's a nice one that's for sale on here. http://basschat.co.u...3-drop-to-l400/ I played it when Oldman had it. It's a really nice bass, and I like a p-bass thickness neck. anzoid Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Got a genuine Fender fretless for sale - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/303520-fender-p-bass-fretless-kinda-bitsa It's a bitsa but everything apart from the tuners is genuine original MIM Fender Quote
Jakester Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I had an MIJ fretless precision which was awesome. Surf green, tort guard, ebony fingerboard - lovely! Quote
matski Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 (edited) I have a factory fretless Precision, mine is a 1978 model with a maple fret(less)board. It's pretty damn heavy, but mighty fine sound wise. I fitted half wound strings on it to avoid damage and it sounds epic. Edited April 11, 2017 by matski Quote
fretlessguy Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 In the mid-90s Fender came out with a fretless P Bass. I have one. I prefer it much over a Jazz fretless. It has more "mwah" that anything other bass I have ever encountered, including when I puit flats on it to eliminate the over mwahing sound. So I lived with it and put on some pressure wounds and have enjoyed it. There still may be a few of those P fretlesses around from that time if you look carefully. Quote
fftc Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 Thanks everyone. I'm not looking to buy right now. Just looking for future reference! Quote
