andytoad Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Just a quick question all, I may be about to sell an item within Europe via bank transfer. Aside from waiting 24 hours once the credit has been recieved into my account, is there anything else I need to ensure? Are there any different rules/abilities in recalling the credit by a European bank (as I understand U.K to U.K. transfers are pretty final)? Thanks in advance.. Quote
Chiliwailer Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Not sure about the rules tbh, but I once spoke to my bank about it and they said it'd be safe. When I've done it, it takes 3-4 days to clear. Last time it took more, perhaps due to a bank holiday in Italy. Maybe there is a new 24 hour service I wasn't aware of? Quote
Thunderbird Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Also bear in mind that the bank will most likely charge you for a payment from abroad Quote
Grangur Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Beware of bank charges when transferring to European accounts. I know my company used to pay £25 in charges to Poland Quote
andytoad Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 Thanks all for the responses, best wait and see if I have a sale then! Quote
scoot Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Have you checked out https://transferwise.com ? I bought my Maruscszyk using it and found it dead easy and cheap Quote
Paul S Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 ^^This^^ I used it recently and it is definitely dead easy, efficient and cheap. Quote
warwickhunt Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Used Transferwise (was sceptical at first) and it was as easy as a bank transfer but way cheaper than bank charges. Quote
Dood Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Transferwise user here too. Cheaper and safer than PayPal. Quote
the boy Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) +1 for TransferWise. I send money quite frequently with them. Never any problems. Edited April 18, 2017 by the boy Quote
Dood Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I always thought I was really late to the party when it came to Transferwise, so I never really mentioned it before. Surprised at how many people are still fighting with Paypal and excessive bank transfer charges when buying and selling in Europe. (Careful not to mention the B word and 'it can only get worse' etc etc) Quote
fleabag Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited)
Used Transferwise (was sceptical at first) and it was as easy as a bank transfer but way cheaper than bank charges.
I can concur. I bought an amp from Germany, and they insisted on Euros. Paypal fees or bank charges totted up to around £30 -ish Transferwise charges amounted to £2.50. The problem was getting the german company to accept that as payment. They did in the end, but they must have figured that they might get scammed, because they hadn't heard of Transferwise Anyway, i'd use them again at the drop of a hat Edited April 18, 2017 by fleabag Quote
