With the ban of importing Rosewood would the wise investor be buying up Rosewood fretboards and putting them away for 20 years?

I doubt it would be worth it. There are other timbers which work in that application. Gibson, for example, is using things like Grenadillo, which seems to do the job perfectly well.

Compared to classical instruments electric basses and guitars have not been around long, with modern music becoming less and less 'band' orientated will they be popular at all in twenty years time?
