TheGreek Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 In for a penny... I've been waiting this long, may as well wait another 2 weeks. Bloody annoying though - not B&M's fault - clearly down to Peavey/ Trace Elliot US. Quote
fftc Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 What's the chances of it not being around before the next NAMM? Quote
Wolverinebass Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Whilst this thread is kind of amusing in a car crash "how long before Mick asks for a refund whilst TE string him and ever other person along who's pre-ordered one" kind of way, it is intensely unamusing that after all this stress, hardship and chasing them to the gates of Hades for a delivery date, the amp (if it ever arrives) will probably be an underpowered matchbox gimmick only capable of holding it's own against a drummer with brushes. I can't see how a 200w class D amp will cut it in any loud situation at all. Were it 1000w I'd be saying it was genius, but not for 200w. I hope it doesn't go this way. Quote

kumimajava Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I know this is of little help to everyone back in the UK, but they've been available off-the-shelf in Japan for the past few weeks. I did try playing through one at Ikebe two weeks ago, but given that my experience of amps is thoroughly limited, I don't know what sort of feedback would be useful. TE doesn't seem to have a big following over here - the guy was surprised that I was at all interested in the amp. They had it driving a VanDerKley 210, and it seemed to do allright; got a bit hot in the process, but that's running at 100v, and it is summer here. The other amp they had next to the VDK cab was a Tecamp Puma 500, but size & price-wise not really a direct competitor. EQ's flat, the TE sounded brighter than the Tecamp, but I didn't spend much time playing with the EQ settings to get a broader picture. Anyways - the Elfs (elves?) are around, and I hope will be arriving in the UK soon. The one I saw didn't have a variable voltage selector, so sadly ordering one from over here is not an option Quote
Musicman20 Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I've seen online video reviews from users, so they are out in the wild. It's certainly extremely portable and I've always liked the bright punchy Trace tone, but I think they should have gone with a 500W unit and kept it around £350... I suspect a higher wattage version is in development. Quote
tauzero Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017
I tried the new TE Elf at the LBGS and though I wasn't given a great deal of time to give it a thorough going over I was sufficiently impressed to place an order with Bass Direct after the Barnes & Mullins rep, Mark Hedge, advised they were due to arrive in the UK "at the end of March, if not, then end of April."
So, that would be a Class D, then? Quote
TheGreek Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Ironic? I could order one on ebay, include P&P, it would be marginally more expensive (by less than a pound) and it would probably arrive before the one I've had on order since March. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122620375642?_trksid=p999999.c100636.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160602105936%26meid%3Da0b103c526d249f49644481d859ab5f1%26pid%3D100636%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D172795549006&ul_noapp=true Quote

BigRedX Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 (edited) A minute or so with Google reveals that it does have a standard IEC mains connector and switch mode PS. However the US version also has 120V 60Hz printed on the back panel, so there must be some differences to the PSU between this and the 240V version - even if it is only the value of the non-accessible mains fuse. BigRedX Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 (edited) We'll have to see when actual units arrive in this country, but the single voltage could be down to something as simple as the fact that there's no room for a back panel mains fuse holder, so it isn't possible for the user to change the fuse to one of the appropriate rating for their country of residence without opening it up and voiding the warranty. Happy Jack Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 So I'm sitting here with Issue 147 of BGM (allegedly the September issue, but I can't help noticing that there's more than two weeks of August rain left) and the full page advert inside the front cover states that the Elf is Available from all good music stores. It doesn't actually say "all good music stores in the USA" so I guess you have to take that as being implied. The power supply is not mentioned. These are not the amps you seek. Quote
Merton Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 On the Talkbass thread there is confirmation the power supply is universal, it's clearly just the label which is holding this up Quote
