Added 2nd cab and blew amp speaker fuse ?

Got a Trace Elliot GP11 Mkv combo 4x10 and got a second cab , TE 1152 1x15 wedge , and soon as i plugged it in, lost all sound. The second cab never uttered a sound.

Unplugged the cab, and now no sound from the combo either. There are 2 fuses on the rear , amp and speaker. Amp light was still on but checked this fuse anyway, but it was fine.

Checked the speaker fuse and it had blown.

Checked the cable first, but no problems there. Checked the internal 1x15 cab wiring, and didnt seem to be any problems there either.

What could possibly have blown the speaker protection fuse in the TE head ?

Hi, thanks mate but they're both specifically about blowing the amp fuses. My amp fuse is fine, it's only the speaker fuse that blew when adding the second cab

The Trace Elliot combo will take another 8 ohm cab, and the additional cab, also Trace Elliot, has been checked as 8 ohms, also the internal wiring was checked, and also run through a different amp, and so cab is not guilty

I was surprised to find that my local Maplins had a great range of fuses!

I got some slow blow fuses from Marlins as I was desperate and they were more expensive than eBay but not by that much, £3 for 5 I think.

Maplins tend to charge more than most. CPC / Farnell are pretty good

At least you can walk into a Maplins and get yer bits there and then.
Handy on a Saturday afternoon with a gig looming large in the evening.
They are the convenience store of leccy bits, of course you expect to pay a small premium!

Very true, and yes you pay for that, but they're great in an emergancy

I'm fortunate that i have 2 other rigs i can fall back so there's no urgency on my part, and decided on the cheap Ebay fuses

Update !

Fuses arrived, replaced speaker fuse and combo back up and running fine.

Again, added 2nd TE cab and the combo instantly sound like the speakers had all blown, farting badly, next to zero volume.

Extension cab not much better. Fuse did not blow this time

Extension cab ( i may have already said this ) was tested through another amp, using the same cable and it was fine.

So it seems that the TE combo does not like a 2nd cab added, despite its ability to run two 8 ohm cabs ??

Any more ideas ??

Maybe the combo speaker has been changed for a 4 ohm one ?

Might still be worth putting a meter over "summed" 4x10's to check impedance unless you've down that already ? Or you may have a power transistor failing ?

Hmm...yes i think you're right.

You saying i need to check the output jack socket so that i;m getting summed output ? Just checking - my leccy talent is
somewhat lacking

They could be original speakers, but still could have been messed with.

According to the Eminence webby,
if the TE 10's were all 8 ohm, 4 can only be wired for 8 ohm or 2 ohm.

If they're 16 ohm, 4 can be wired for 16 ohm or 4 ohm

If they're 32 ohm, 4 can be wired for 8 ohm

Had to check the TE speaker jack plug. Its the way the TE is assembled makes checking the socket impossible

Anyways, reading was 5.9 ohms

Checking the site above, looks like they're four 8 ohm drivers wired series/parallel

That should work, but you might need to disconnect the speakers connection to the amp (should only be two wires) id then measure across those cables

And the extension cab measurement.? ? 5.9 on a multimeter is close enough to 8 for government work.
