martthebass Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Just picked up a new Squier bass, lovely thing for the money but could do with the fret ends dressing as there's some sharp bits. What spend should I expect for such a job, no other set up work needed? Quote
Osiris Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I also have a bass that could do with some fret work doing, so I'm also interested to know the going rate for a fret dress (not a full re-fret) too, if anyone has an idea? Quote
gary mac Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I did one last week, if it had been a job I was charging for, it would have been around £30 Quote
RickyV Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I had a set-up done the other week which in the end also required a fret dress. The standard set-up would have been £40 but with the fret-dress I paid £80 total. So about £30-£40 would seem reasonable. Quote
Grangur Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I also do fret levelling and dressing and the £30 is about right. That said, Gary Mac and I don't have commercial workshops to pay for. So a luthiers with a pro workshop and VAT might charge more. Quote
martthebass Posted May 4, 2017 Author Posted May 4, 2017 Thanks for this guys - about what I was hoping for. Quote
mep Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Buy the tool off eBay and do it yourself. I did one of my basses. The tool is quite cheap and if you are careful is easy enough. Quote
dyerseve Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Paid £30 for a fret dress at my local Luthier recently Quote
MM Stingray 62 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Just had my jazz bass done by Nigel Stockbridge £40 now plays fantastic. Quote
