I was considering which year my YOB bass would be...

I was born in 1962 but my birthday is 28th December which, I suspect, means that most factories would have been closed for the rest of the year. This means any "YOB" bass built in '62 would be older than I am. At least the majority of basses built in '63 would have been built in 12 months from my birth.

Make sense?

That was a good year that was.....

I was born in the August. Just because my birthday is towards the end of the year I am not so desperate as to claim a year younger YOB instrument just to pull more totty however. I am well over myself since I've been treated for the urges.

Still, they can't do you for it TheGreek. Go for it!

1988 for me. Probably a Status Graphite Series II, an Alembic or maybe a Ken Smith at a push!

Edit: I did used to own an 87 or 88 Series II, as well as two 1989 Kubicki Ex Factors. Close enough!

Jan '57 for me.
This would be mine, but it wouldn't float my boat to be honest :)
A serious, desirable Bass for some though.

If you were born in 1962, then the YOB bass is a '62.
'63 makes no sense for me even if you were born so close to the end of the year.

Not necessarily. America make more of a thing of Thanksgiving than they do of Christmas. I have friends in the US who only have a half day off on Christmas Day. Chances are the factories would have been working.

I think some on here were born before the electric bass was invented :).

Luckily, some of us are not worried about YOB, either, so that's no big deal..! :lol:

Mine would be a '75, so I reckon a Jazz bass would be best. :gas:

to TheGreek - you'd have been gestating at the same time as a '62 was being made, so I reckon you should plump for that...

Here is mine. 1965 for me - one of the benefits of advancing years is a YOB of good vintage.

Mine is a '76 P bass, unfortunately I can't afford the real thing, but I do have an amazing 'law suit era' Matsumoku made Precision.. That's pretty much the same thing :)

Then you might be in direct competition with me for my desired YOB axe;

Am I going to have to fight you for it? It might be wise not to choose the same bass as me as an assassination can often cause offence.

I initially thought this thread was about Aaron Rieseberg, which would make the YOB bass a Rickenbacker or EGC :lol:

However, back on topic, I'm an '85 baby so a Wal, Status or G&L would probably be the best shout from that era.

I do recall doing several Jazz gigs with Dick Turpin.
Although not his preferred style, in the end he was a good at swinging.

I was interested to see what the 'net says is the first electric bass and this came up;

It says - "This is the first electric bass guitar. The Tutmarc AudioVox 736 dated 1937." That would be the YOB axe for an eighty year old.

How many of our members are now left with no YOB bass to choose? Can we include modified uprights perhaps so as not to exclude anyone?
