Dood Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 You could ask the same question of Bass Players on Guitar! John Deacon for example was a bit handy on the Guitar though you'd never have known on the face of it. Quote
Dood Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I guess my fellow D'Addario/Dingwall artist Nolly is known for his bass work in Periphery but he's a great Guitarist. Andy James usually plays all the bass on his solo albums (only cos he couldn't afford me lol) Quote
Dood Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017
Ron Wood
Ronnie Wood's playing on Maggie May is so tasty. Quote
EBS_freak Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) This guys has had a bit of a turn with on bass... Lets think.... Lets Spend The Night Together... Jumpin' Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil, Street Fighting Man... That's some impressive records to have a bass credit on. Oh, and he was the bass player in the Dirty Mac with John Lennon! Conan Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Scott Gorham played bass on this lovely track... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKrYDJ20vfg Quote
Japhet Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Probably not too well known but Robbie MacIntosh (a proper guitarist's guitarist) is a great bass player. Does a lot of the bass work on his own albums, mainly when he can't get hold of Pino. Quote

dmccombe7 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 John Paul Jones did some Mandolin playing that was nice but that's round the wrong way i guess. He was however multi instrumentalist. Dave Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Steve Lukather played bass on Michael Jackson's beat it. Quote
leftybassman392 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) Newton Faulkner. IIRC he plays all the instruments on his albums himself. A brilliant all-round musician IMHO. Edited May 8, 2017 by leftybassman392 Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017
Dave Gilmour, saw him play bass with Sam Brown in the mid 90's B
...and allegedly quite a dab hand with it on a lot of the mid-70s Pink Floyd albums! Quote
Funky Dunky Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Richie Kotzen. Otherworldly guitarist, and a really good bassist. Stevie Salas is much the same. I witnessed Bumblefoot dicking about on a bass on the Vigier stand at Music Live in 2002 and he was staggeringly good. Quote
Hobbayne Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) George Harrison played bass on a few Beatle tracks. Edit - Oh! and Adele is quite handy on the bass too. Edited May 8, 2017 by Hobbayne Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Buckethead is a bit of a decent slapper... Quote

Jenny_Innie Posted May 8, 2017 Author Posted May 8, 2017
I'm not convinced by any of the comments so far. Maybe Paul McCartney. Otherwise ...... pfffft!
Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Isn't Yngwie Malmsteen very much in the "transfer your widdly guitar chops across to bass" camp, capable though he is? Mike Oldfield is a good call (thinking of the old Kevin Ayers albums). Also, John Scofield is doubling on bass with the Brad Mehldau trio at the moment, playing a short-scale Mustang bass in a convincingly restrained, unflashy style. Quote
