Pissman Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 So! What's peoples fav colour! Gota say I love a purple bass.. I think I made this poll right...if not feel free to delete and I'll cry over my incompetence.. Quote
P-T-P Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 As much as I can appreciate a fancy natural finish or a good sunburst, give me a custom colour pretty much every time... Shell Pink, Sonic Blue, Burgundy Mist, Candy Apple Red... love 'em Quote
Adrenochrome Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Trans purple. (I've actually got more solid black basses but that's down to availability) Quote
markytbass Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I have been toying with the idea of spraying my jazz bass. I had thought CA red, black or gold but after visiting an art shop in town I have found some more obscure colours which I thought would look good on a bass. Quote
EssentialTension Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I like the sound of sunbust. Could you post a sample of that please? Quote

Kiwi Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Nothing beats a nice bit of exhibition grade quilted maple, feathered crotch walnut or flamed redwood. So long as the grain pattern is nice and bold. Quote
budget bassist Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 A nice trans blue bass will always win me over, a pacific blue burst musicman stingray, yum! A nice back routed trans blue burst jazz bass with a flamed maple top would be pretty sweet too. Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I have lots of black, and quite a few naturals (mainly Maple and Ash). None of my choices have even remotely been driven by colour, to be honest. Tone, feel, and playability are far more important. But they haven't stopped this from happening! Quote
Dubs Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 natural or black or a dark tobacco sunburst but mostly natural Quote
Pissman Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 [quote name='Lfalex v1.1' post='316426' date='Oct 28 2008, 09:13 AM']I have lots of black, and quite a few naturals (mainly Maple and Ash). peted Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I voted for Natural and Black. My Warwick is natural and has a lovely looking grain. My next bass is going to be a black gloss finish as I think it looks classy. Quote

You've got to have a few different colours! Quote
Dood Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I chose 'other' as both my 7 string Shuker 'Doodle' and my new 6 string headless Shuker both feature flip paint.. so my basses change colour depending on how you look at them! Looks visually stunning with a high gloss wet look lacquer! Quote
The Burpster Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Ouch this is really hard....... I do like and own natural basses...... But IMHO EVERTHING looks good in black, so thats what I voted for. Quote
Jase Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Sunburst for me, then Black....mind you a reliced vintage white is always nice too. Quote
Protium Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Tobacco burst, black, natural but only with a dark/aged wood. Quote
ZMech Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I'm not a fan of solid colour finishes, but I do love a nice bit of translucent colouring. both my basses are red with the grain visible through them (tinted red flamed maple = sweet aesthetic goodness). Quote
Tait Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 oooh... depends on the bass really. i voted red because ive never seen a red bass i dont like the look of, but i have seen other colours i prefer on some things, but would look terrible on others. Quote
joe_bass Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 If it's a trans with a nice piece of wood or quilted maple etc then colour doesn't matter too much to me, as long as it's not too bright. But as this option isn't available I'll go with black. Love the look of say a black jazz with matching scratch plate & then a maple neck. Just love the contrast. Quote
lowhand_mike Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 went for natural, miss my stingray sob.. though my current has a trans red finish but i didnt get it based just on looks. so trans or trans coloured stain Quote
cytania Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Well this really explains why my 'Black & White World' post fell flat. Clearly bass players like it monochrome. Should I blame the Specials and Two Tone or the Blues Brothers... ;-) Really surprised red did so poorly as I'd love a red Rickenbacker (white binding, mmm). Surprisingly good showing for purple too which is very unpopular in regular electric guitars... Quote
tauzero Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Definitely natural - the only painted instruments I have are the two electric guitars. Quote
