BassAgent
So I work at this secondary school and we have a couple of basses. Some are pretty decent (SX Jazz is amazing for the price) and some are terrible. And then there's this one: I guess it's from the 70's, it's shortscale and it has a laminated body. Really, it consists of layers of wood. But what is it? Hondo? It sounds pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty ok.
Root45
Built from a kit?
BassAgent
I don't think kits existed in the 70s
mark76
What's going on with the E?
BassAgent
It didn't fit through the hole in the bridge... I tried to ram it through but that didn't work.
mark76
What gauge is it?
BassAgent
It's a .105, probably to big but it was the only E-string I had lying around there.
mark76
Crikey. What kind of bass bridge can't take a .105? I mean... It's only the most commonly used gauge for bass E strings.
BassAgent
Ehehehe I know, I was surprised to I just found a couple of stickers. -One says "made in Korea" (so there's a mystery solved) -On the neckplate is "H-80" -And there is a "inspected by" sticker. I'm thinking it might be an old Harmony, I can find guitars with the same neck joint and strap button on the heel of the neck, but I can't find an H-80 bass. That was a Strat type guitar. BassAgent
Here's a sloppy demo of what it sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXIYKUw9eF8 Edited May 13, 2017 by BassAgent
Beer of the Bass
It looks like Hondo had an H-80 bass, and that would fit with the Made in Korea sticker. I can't find a picture of one though. They did use a very similar headstock shape to yours on some things. Bassassin
No brand cheapo, from Samick, the factory that made Hondo. I'm guessing the inspection sticker looks like this:
BassAgent
That's exactly what the sticker looks like

TrevorR
Quality! (Bassassin's knowledge, that is, not necessarily the bass)
Phil Adams
Idly looking at the pic, could it be a left hand bridge? Might possibly be the reason.
