chris_b
Pre amps are switched on by inserting the jack plug. That's how they work. I'd need a confirmation from the manufacturer before I'd believe anyone who says theirs does not do this.
mcnach
My Jaydee Supernatural had a mini toggle switch between the volume & tone controls for the active circuit.
That's generally a bypass switch and it normally does not disconnect the preamp, it remains powered, but the signal bypasses it. Grangur
Presumably you could fit a pot with a push/pull switch to switch the pre-amp? Also, when measuring the drain current you might find the high impedance of some multi-meters could give a false reading.
Yes I've seen a switch as well as the Jack just like a push pull active passive switch but they've still got the stereo Jack, leaving one on passive would stop the drain though I'd think, no such option on a genuine musicman though.
Except a Reflex, Big Al, some US Subs, one or two limited runs of Stingrays (PDN white Classic; a Guitar Centre special run - used the same stuff as the white Classic). The hang tag manual for the 70s/80s Stingrays mentioned battery drain as negligible. The change to the design was made in the 80s. Battery life of one to three years estimated according to the blurb. http://www.musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0051.htm Edited May 17, 2017 by drTStingray
