therealting
So I'm lucky enough to have a couple pre-CBS Precisions, and I'd quite like to have Hipshot Xtenders put on them if at all possible. Does anyone know of anyone who is able to age these D-tuners sympathetically so they still work well but don't look completely out of place? Cat Burrito
If it gets desperate, I've found chrome looks very well aged with a gentle rub of a dry brillo cloth. I've done that with replacement hardware on my old vintage basses in days gone by.
dannybuoy
As I understand, chrome is a lot harder to get a nice aged look than nickel. If you can get those tuners in nickel, do so!
therealting
How do you tell if it's chrome or nickel?
Geek99
Try a mixture of vinegar, green toilet duck and a little salt-don't be tempted to put it near a metal container-it will burn its way through aluminium - Tupperware works well

ahpook
I know of a few aged hipsters, if that's any help
dannybuoy
How do you tell if it's chrome or nickel?
Nickel has a duller, greyer finish. Sometimes it's hard to tell, but easier if you put them side by side. It didn't look very reliced at all, then I read that this trick only works well on nickel! Edited May 17, 2017 by dannybuoy
Geek99
Doesn't the crime flake off with real use ? Certainly gave a good enough result for my purposes Edited May 17, 2017 by Geek99
