Oldfartback
Hi looking for a nice quality practice and difficult to listen to and match with my new Peavey Cirrus bxp but any view on shortlist below would be appreciated: All in the 20w, single 8" speaker range Ampeg 108v2 Gender rumble 15 Ibanez P20 Promethean G&K MB108 Many thanks
CameronJ
I've not tried any of the amps you've mentioned but it may be worth considering one of the new Hartke combos. Tried one out in the Yamaha music store in London and was quite impressed by how good it sounded even with a 5 string.
Grahambythesea
I haven't tried any of these either, but I have a Hartke 15w and it's brilliant even with a 5 string.

machinehead
I had the Fender Rumble 15 and it sounded great at home, at low volumes. I also used it for quiet band rehearsals. A nice little amp. Frank.
Grangur
It depends on the sound you like, but I'd find all those mentioned so far to be a bit "clanky" or "electronic" sounding to my liking. I like a more bass, bluesey sound. So I'd go for something a bit more powerful. Or a Phil Jones Cub or similar. It does, of course, depend on what budget you have to work with too. If you're a bit stuck for finance, then look out for something "used".

I can also vouch for Lozz being a really reliable guy. For your budget a Roland Cube would be good, if you get to see one used for the money. Twincam
Personally I would go with the gk mb108. I've also tried the fender and the Ampeg both were not bad, but the ampeg rattled like crazy on some notes, as did the 10" and 12" models but the tone was good. I just don't like the fender v3 rumbles tone, you may however.
gary mac
My fender Rumble has been excellent for home practice. Well built, decent sound quality and so far has proved very reliable.
NickA
The Roland Micro-Cube is surprisingly good for the size and cost (lots of knobs to twiddle too!) The PJB bass-cub & (same but bigger) flight case very good indeed .. but a tad pricey and really just make your bass louder without adding or taking much away (which is a good thing IMHO) - also modular in that you can add a powered cab for performing. Tried a load of tiny amps out in my search and found most of them (Laney, Orange, Ashdown, to name three) feeble and boxy.
JPJ
Can I throw the TC Electronic BG250 208 into the mix? Yes its a 2x8 but it does make a lovely noise.
Oldfartback
Thats weird as in the look out for one! Demoed the 1x12 and impressed....neatly walked off with it but just too big!
sammybee
I would second the TC Electronic BG250 208 - I've got one in my practice room and it is great at quiet volumes and goes quite loud when you want it to. I've had a Fender Rumble 15 in the past, and it was worth every penny of the £25 I sold it for - but not much more.
Marc S
The Roland Micro-Cube is surprisingly good for the size and cost (lots of knobs to twiddle too!)....

Can I throw the TC Electronic BG250 208 into the mix? Yes its a 2x8 but it does make a lovely noise.
Just recently bought myself a Roland Micro Cube. It's a really tiny amp, with great sound and volume, considering it's size. Indeed, there are lots of "knobs to twiddle" and some really nice, useable sound effects / pre-sets. I got it cos it'll run off AA batteries too! - highly useful for me, for acoustic jams & pub sessions. Of course, you can't be heard if you've a loud, or even moderately loud drummer, or amped up electric guitars etc - but that's not what I bought mine for... Re the comments about the TC Electronic BG250 208. It's a great amp. Yes, it's 200W as is, and 250W with an extension cab - but as it's a vertically oriented box, its' footprint is very small. It's a very lightweight amp, given its' output, and it can be used for acoustic jams & even gigs - where the drummer isn't overly loud. So you could put it to multiple uses, instead of having one amp for this situation, another for that, and yet another for that... I had one, and really liked it - but I foolishly sold it, thinking I'd win some brownie points with Mrs S. On reflection, as I said, the footprint is small anyway, and looking back, I really could still do with one of these amps Lately, the price has gone up considerably too... damit! If you see one going second-hand, I'd consider it - it may cost a tad more than your budget, but they're great amps Edited June 1, 2017 by Marc S
Trueno
Another vote for the Roland Microcube. Couldn't be better for bedroom practice/noodling... but depends on whether you have any other requirements.
T-Bay
And another vote for the Roland, I borrowed one off a mate when my old amp went pop and was amazed by the sound from such a small package. The effects are fun but not brilliant but it's a great overall small amp.
