SaraFedi Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Hi there, with my band we are gonna play at the big top IOW. I've started asking around about which might be the best solution amp wise ecc. I have an Hartke hd 50, obviously for home use. Some of my fellas suggested to borrow/rent a bigger amp. Good idea but i'm not really keen in spending money for something that i'm gonna use just once, and (about a bigger amp) I literally wouldn't know where to store it once back in London. I was trying to understand how the IEM works considering that I'll probably buy a line 6 g10/30 (not sure yet). My question is how would the two things work together? It's the first time and for as much I researched this thing is till quite confusing for me. Thanks for the help! Sara Quote
TheGreek Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Might help.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-ear_monitor Quote
bassfunk Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Your Wireless IEM and your Wireless Guitar/bass transmitter work independently. You transmit the signal from your guitar to your amp/DI this gets sent to the FOH and the monitor desk (I assume there will be a separate monitor engineer) you (or the engineer) hook your IEM wireless transmitter up to the desk and then that transmits tour IEM reciever and into you IEM. Does this make sense. With regards to the amp there will be plenty of backline rental companies supplying IOW. Maybe see if you can get a contact and ask them if you can use one that is already being supplied. Do you have a sound engineer/manager etc... to help you? If not it might be worth enlisting a sound guy/girl you know from a venue etc... to do some pre-production and create a tech spec, or even take them with you - make sure they're well qualified for this sort of thing. I work with some local bands driving them and doing backline tech etc. It's worth having someone who knows what they're doing so all you have to do is think about the performance. Or call the production contact for IOW and explain things to them, they might offer some support? Quote
KingPrawn Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Hello Sara It can be confusing. I'd check if the gig is supplying monitoring on stage, before spending to much. It's unusual to play somewhere and the PA supplier does not provide stage monitoring. A wireless guitar system, will only give you freedom to move around the stage. You will still need to send the signal from it somewhere. If you don't want the hassle of an amp. You should look at a preamp. This will at least give you give you some control over your tone, you could send you bass signal to it from your wireless system, then onto the main desk into the PA. Your IEM can run from a Signal from the main desk or (monitor desk depending on size of gig). You will then have a mix of your bass and whatever other instrument/ vocals you require. These are a good preamp/Di /Behringer-BDI21-V-Tone-Bass-Preamp I'm sure you'll get lots of advice from the BC. Massive Quote
Lozz196 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Without enough on-stage volume that you can control you - and the band - are totally at the mercy of the ability and willingness of the people on the desk. If this is a big gig - forgive me I don`t know anything about that one - I`d be surprised if there isn`t a provided backline. Best contact the organisers and ask what equipment is provided. If no bass amp, contact one of the other bands on the bill and ask a favour. Quote
Muppet Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Check with the organisers. I've been to this festival since 2002 and played once. The Big Top is the second biggest stage at the festival with a capacity of around 5,000. The stage is big and very well set up with plenty of on stage monitoring. I would contact the organisers first to be honest and ask what is supplied as I wouldn't be surprised if there was already backline available, having seen how they turn around the acts. Congratulations, I would kill to play this stage! Quote
SaraFedi Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 Hi there, Thanks to you all for the replies! I actually found the solution, as some of you were proposing I'll go for a DI box (i was thinking for the sansamp tech 21, because i got good feedback about this one) and keep the idea for the line6. The stage is quite big and everything but for what i know (having been there before and cause of the big names after us on stage) i'm pretty sure that they will have a quite competent sound engineer/monitors. The only thing that won't be provide are the amps for the band since that all the others bands are touring and have their own gear. This is why we have been requested to bring our own. I'm aware that you can't connect the line 6 to the ism, i was just wondering how it would have worked using the DI About the IEM will just go for them once the tour plan will be finished, basically to get a better discount. I'm writing all this so if anyone get a chance to play at the big top at IOW you get some infos about what do they provide. Someone told me that during the last years they were actually providing everything, but not this one. Thanks again for all the answers! S. Quote

Muppet Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I saw your set yesterday! Sounded brilliant and you guys have got a great stage presence. I loved the songs. You got your wireless and amp sorted too I see!! Anyway, I put some (not very good) photos on your Twitter feed. Fantastic job. Steve Quote
basior Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 At this kind of a big stage the tech company should provide body packs (wireless transmitters for IEM) and DI box - so you can show up only with IEm and bass. You (as a band) should send them you technical rider with secified info of what gear you need on stage. Quote
