Guitarists Playing Bass

Why is it that when a guitarist asks you if he can have a go on your bass, they always try to play a solo up at the 12th fret, get bored and hand it back saying the neck is too wide??

Yet, isn't that a successful outcome on many levels?

1. The bass is back on the stand undamaged.
2. The guitarist has got it out of his system and won't come back to often.
3. He didn't like it
4. He didn't show you how to play the solo you've struggled with for 3 weeks.
5. He's not after taking your place in the band.
