TrevorR Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) Crumbs, how do you classify best bassline. Mine probably aren't going to hit a lot of "brilliant because they're difficult" lists. However, the bass lines that put the biggest smile on my face when I hear them are actually quite simple but perfectly executed and an integral part of the song. So these are the lines that just make me grin every time I hear them... http://youtu.be/BL8NNTNmPT4 http://youtu.be/VcrY6eSViXQ http://youtu.be/y5G8AJf4Xzw http://youtu.be/wziJqdq4LcA ...oh, and Good Times, of course! Lozz196 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017
One of my favourites for many years is Warhead by the UK Subs: https://www.youtube....h?v=_pO_EqziS1g I have always loved it's prominence in the track and it's quite easy to play!
Awesome bass line. When we recorded our last album we asked the Subs for permission to record it, as it had been in our set for ages (the only cover we do) and they were kind enough to both grant that, and ask for a listen. In the end we felt that a cover would detract from the rest of the material, so left it off, but I thought it was really decent of them to be so gracious. Quote

gjones Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) I really like this version of Senor Blues, by Taj Mahal. The bassline was originally played on piano, in the Horace Silver version. Edited May 25, 2017 by gjones Quote
bazzbass Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 so many great basslines in this thread. time to hit some tab sites..... Quote
christhammer666 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 The opening 3 notes to metallicas orion still send shivers down my spine Quote
kendall Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection, not complex, not difficult. But this is a line that owns the song from start to finish. Quote
visog Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 So all due respect to some wonderful music brought forward in this thread. Teen Town a special mention. So I get the groove aspect - Patrice Rushen's 'Forget Me Nots' being a great example. What about a longer form line - much, much longer: one that develops into a stunning crescendo against the prevailing music backdrop, one that has humbling musicality that alas we'll never get back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6QJ-z6fDEQ Quote
interpol52 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 This is one of my favourites to play - http://youtu.be/5ixRWvrkUHo I'm a sucker for a good disco bassline, I absolutely love this, it takes a bit to kick in. http://youtu.be/de4_vbntd50 Quote
Nicko Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Ironically Under the Bridge (RHCP) is one of my faves, and the bass does nothing for the first verse. When I come Around (Green Day) Girlfriend in a Coma (Smiths) Good Times (Chic) Love Cats (Cure) Ask me tomorrow and you'll probably get a different list Quote
aguacollas Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x31lra_spain-chick-corea-72_music One of the best to me. Stanley Clarke is amazing here. Quote

missis sumner Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017
For me, Stevie's 'For Once In My Life' has got to be well up there. Jamerson at his absolute best, total mastery. This graphic representation gives an idea of its combination of fearsome complexity and effortless groove.
This. Shivers down my spine when I first heard the bass, which, embarrassingly, was only recently. I also like a bit of ABBA as well though...
