chris_b Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Over the years, I've made up for the both of you. Am I bovvered?? Quote
Barking Spiders Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I've never played Mustang Sally either and I'm a mahoosive Wilson Pickett fan. Ay caramba, I don't get how some posters haven't picked upon the light-hearted tongue-in-cheekiness of the OP . Quote
SICbass Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Am I the only person here that thinks that MOST (albeit admittedly not all) of the people who have a gentle dig at MS are just ribbing for fun and really don't intend any offence and that some people are taking it all a WEE bit too seriously? By the way, I belong to the ribber faction although I love playing the number and the smiling faces of the punters. Sorry Barking Spiders, your post artived as I was writing mine. Happy Jack Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I'm pretty sure that ninety-nine and a half per cent of us got it ... Quote
Twincam Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I've just seen this comment on YouTube I'm laughing my head off. See its not just bass players. Drummers kick off too apprently haha My sister had this friend of hers that was a drummer and he always had a huge dislike for this song. One time he was playing a gig and right when the band leader called out "Mustang Sally", he got so pissed that he immediately threw his drum sticks, knocked over his drum kit and left the stage because he hated playing this song. I sing and play in a band that plays all genres of music and we usually get requests to play this song at wedding receptions and I don't have any complaints nor dislikes for this song at all because it's got a cool groove to it and a killer horn arrangement. It is a classic song that will keep people out on the dance floor all night. I love it!! Quote
Barking Spiders Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Of course there are much better WP numbers than MS (IMO) like Land of a 1,000 Dances and 634-5789 but I've yet to see any band cover these! Edited May 30, 2017 by Barking Spiders Quote

[/quote] I was briefly in a band that covered 634-5789. We only played it once, at an Open Mic, but it went down pretty well. All the audience knew it, they just hadn't heard it in a while. So I think it would have been a great one to do. The band never got off the ground though, but that's another story and probably another thread. Quote

Bikenbass Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 And just to wind up a few more who don't see the humour, I think you'll find Carol Kaye was the original bassist on MS! Quote
