acidbass
Pop has always had great bass, just look at ABBA! It's often how session jazz guys make a living.

Skol303
Lots of great basslines in pop chart crap. Here's a very unlikely favourite of mine... but perhaps now old enough to be considered 'vintage': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOZuxwVk7TU

Barking Spiders
The history of pop is one of crap songs with good to great basslines. [/quote] To me it sounds like the original is an octave down from the cover, it makes it sound like there's an octave pedal on. Man that Crush song hit me right in the nostalgia from when I used to get a "now that's what I call music" every Christmas as a kid!

BrunoBass
Making pop records is and always has been highly skilful. It's no surprise how good some of the musicianship is. It's designed to sound good on the radio, blatantly appeal to it's target audience (few of whom I'd imagine are Basschat correspondents), and subliminally appeal to the parents of said audience. It's certainly not crap 😊
chris_b
+1 Most "pop" music over the years has had very high production values. I can think of many who are top quality like Motown, Queen, ABBA, Beach Boys etc. The only guy who didn't seem to bother was Bob Dylan but he had other levels of greatness going for him. I can't think of any others who didn't produce a quality product. A lot of care was taken over disposable 2 min pop songs. It might be "pop" but it was rarely "crap". Misdee
Back in the 70's and 80's loads of pop chart records had great bass lines. The Top 40 was chock-a-block with them.
