ok, i got one for this month. i think i got the keyboard to sound reasonable, although i can still hear moments of cut-off sustain but hopefully they get lost a bit with the touch of extra reverb. i really like the verse bass line, it was surprisingly fluid to play and just felt nice. i am liking messing around with ambient guitar techniques at the moment too as the string effects on the keyboard are laughable, and i think the guitar made for a nicer sound. it is a strange thing given that something so slow can be messed up by a slightly mistimed movement and i still find it hard to get a consistent sound. i think it came out ok given that i am only using a single effects processor and most of the guides use multiple delay and reverb pedals to get the sound.

as for the VST's and things, i honestly have no idea how to use them. i have watched a load of guides and tried a few times but they never seem to work. besides i like to do things in such a way that in theory i could pack up my gear as it stands and head out to play it live without it being far from the recordings. thats why i always play each track as a single take and start again if i mess up. i will catch up with the tech one day, but i still enjoy the neanderthal methods for now.

In early for a change!
I mixed the track and it doesn't seem as disturbing as it did on first listen. Was going to add more stuff, but decided a 12-string and screwdriver was enough. It's no meisterwerk, but it does evoke some kind of dour mood. Here you go:

I managed to turn my already very warm music room into a sauna recording the guitar for this.

Gotta love class-A valve amps, eh?

I was thinking I could go for an acoustic outside in the garden right about now. The sun must have really started to get to me!

I really didn't think I was gonna get anything done for this month, but I had some free time tonight so pulled my finger out.
I'm not posting yet, as I'm off on Friday, so I hope to pop a vocoder vocal on it (I still can't sing).
I think I've captured a mix of beauty & destruction so far.

Looking forward to listening to the other entries too. :)

Can't get a mic set up to record vocals, so Logic had to help me out.
I've put a kick through a broken speaker emulator, so don't panic.

Here's my entry...

I might actually work on this with the band & see if we can work the arrangement. It's a fun bassline to play (though I've added a synth bass alongside).

...

Nah, not really..! :P So, neo-grime grunge is the new 'black', it would seem. B)

Very welcome G, but I might not be able to add it to the roster until later this evening or tomorrow morning :)

I've had a prolific month. I've managed to knock out two more since I did the one for this month's comp. (Here if anyone's interested - also these are NOT entries for the challenge! https://soundcloud.com/mornats/insurrection and https://soundcloud.com/mornats/dark-forest). Insurrection features my new plugin - Tantra along with Replika XT taking a fairly decent orchestral drum pattern that was played through a Maschine kit and twisting it a tad. Dark Forest was an extended playabout with some Massive synth presets and Ethera.

I also grabbed 4 of Mike Verta's masterclasses on sale. Two on composition and two on orchestration and they're proving to be inspirational.

Mike Verta's videos are excellent.
My oldest boy has a couple and they are a great watch.
