So, at gigs where I double up I use a Providence Dual Bass Station to switch between my upright and electric, with the signal from the DBS going to my amp. I also use a chorus on the electric and a compressor on the upright, but should they go before or after the DBS?

Compressor before. CHorus (and all other time based effects - ie. all modulations, reverbs and delays) afterwards, is the traditionally accepted "best arrangement" (and my preferred choice).

However, as always, YMMV and try it any way you look and use what sounds best to you.
