Bass_Guardian
Is it normal to have a blank headstock for Sandbergs?
BassBunny
Or a jack socket on the front?
dyerseve
I was just about to purchase this but now I am unsure...
Jabba_the_gut
Sorry I can't add anything to this as I don't know anything about Sandbergs; I just spotted the ad and thought it might be of interest to someone else on here.
dannybuoy
Both of those things are odd, but I'm not sure what else it could be unless you can now buy fake Sandbergs from China like you can with Fenders, Musician, etc. Unique bridge design, headstock shape, 4 dot logo and 6 bolt neck all look correct. markstuk
Also string tree is their design as well
dyerseve
I did a Google image search and no other Sandberg California has the jack on the front. Pups, bridges, machine heads, string retainers all available as spares from Sandburg. Something about this seems very fishy so I am leaving alone. dannybuoy
I've not seen a single active J bass with that many knobs on the control plate that place the jack on the body like that. Maybe a bodge job jack replacement by someone that didn't have the right type of jack socket to hand?! Flattish frets and no position markers all smell of Sandberg too. I'd ask the owner if they have an explanation if only out of curiousity!
dyerseve
Some additional research shows that the scratchplate is correct for Sandberg and that the logo is only a sticker so could be legitimate. The lack of serial no. On the back of the headstock worried me as well but apparently that is normal for custom shop builds. Considering Sandberg isn't that well known a brand I think it unlikely to be a fake.
BassBunny
Looks like it's gone anyway now or been withdrawn.

I've just sent him a question about the lack of logo and movement of jack socket.....

BassApprentice
Sorry, got a response earlier today. "The guitar is a custom shop and it is how it was ordered. Hope that helps. If you check the serial number on the back of the headstock you can see it corresponds with the age of the guitar." And he's right, the serial number does match the Sandberg system and the headstock is the right shape. Seems legit as far as the usual checks go.
