gary mac
How did you package them? Maybe I am being a bit unfair to eBay but I stopped selling on there a couple of years back (mostly old car and bike stuff and only a few bits and pieces) as I just seemed to come across idiot after idiot. How did you value them? Or did you just run them as auctions?
I purchased some proper card album packaging, you will find them on Ebay if you do a search. If you can't find them, let me know and I'll find you a link. As far as valuing them, some guess work and some search completed sales. As always, good photos and an accurate description will get you the best return. I found that classic Zepp, Floyd, the Who etc. sold well. radiophonic
I've bought and sold via discogs.com. Get your grading correct and package up in advance. It can be a good method for working out what is even worth selling too - the catalog listing there is absolutely huge and includes exhaustive detail on how to recognise a specific pressing / mastering from deadwax inscriptions and sleeve details. Far more reliable than ebay, for sure.
MrBen
Another vote for https://www.discogs.com - you'll also be able to get an idea of what a record is worth. Anyone have their collection catalogued on Discogs? I got to about 60 records in a private collection then got fed up of adding them Quite scary what the few records we added would be worth! :/
Monkey Steve
I've only used Discogs as a buyer so don't know what they are like as a seller, but for valuations they are good, as is eBay - just search and see what others are selling for. My experience of selling old vinyl (had a clear out a few years ago) tends to be a bit like selling an old bass to a shop - they have to make a profit so you're lucky to get half of what it's actually worth, and from the experience of mates who did the same, some places have a very low rate per record when you are selling in bulk. Handy if you are getting rid of a load of stuff and/or need the cash in a hurry, but if you're not in a rush then you can get a significantly better price for anything of real value by flogging it yourself. If you do want to look for a dealer to take it all, one place that does specialise in buying metal is here: http://www.vinyltap.co.uk/sell-vinyl-records
Marillionred
I too have been happily using Discogs to clear my vinyl backlog. As for packing/shipping - I use mailers from Covers33. http://www.covers33.co.uk/ I have a Word document set up with premade messages for all eventualities, so communicating with customers is largely just a matter of copy and paste. And Discog sales fees don't seem as harsh as eBay.
