ben4343 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017
Rancid's bassist is stupidly good, and is fairly prominent in the mix. Check out their "...And Out Come The Wolves" album.
Agreed. Same holds for Operation Ivy of course, who I think I preferred. Fat Mike from NOFX is also killer. Rage Against the Machine have loads of really playable bass riffs; they are great to jam along to. Tool have a dream bass tone and amazing riffs too. Quote
boom boom Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) Tina Weymouth - Talking Heads, Psycho Killer - great example (I think) of how a simple bass line works Not really the period/genre you asked for but i like any of Graham Maby's work (Joe Jackson/ They May Be Giants) Edited June 14, 2017 by boom boom Quote
joeystrange Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 More punk than pop punk but Chris #2 from Anti-Flag is a great player. Check out any of their albums. All My Best Friends Are Metalheads by Less Than Jake has a cool bass line too. Quote
ribbetingfrog Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Always by Blink 182 is surprisingly good, chords and some melody, I love plying it. Quote

Guest bassman7755 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Stretching the definition of punk a little but ... The Jam, bruce foxton is a standout player. Quote

itsmedunc Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Shreikback did some great stuff. Not punk as such but born in the early eighties. Personal favourite is My Spine is the Bassline - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m8bq7fb7o2g Care and Oil and Gold albums are well worth a listen. Quote
