lowdown Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Apologies if this has been posted before (I couldn't find it in a search). Fifteen minutes of James Jamerson on a live concert. Plenty of visual clips of him in action as the video progresses. A few other notable faces in the band as well. Big mention for Martha and her girls, lordy they are on form. Top stuff all round. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mKm9BZU3n8 Quote

EssentialTension Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 (edited) We have had it before but some years ago ... but well worth having again. Although some people are going to be upset by the music stands. Edited June 16, 2017 by EssentialTension Quote

lowdown Posted June 16, 2017 Author Posted June 16, 2017 Yes, all those music stands. Cor blimey guv, you would have thought Jamerson would have remembered all the hits he played on. Quote
SICbass Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 A few years back I played on a soul review backing her. You get the charts at the one rehearsal with her. They are collected at the end of the rehearsal by her MD and not seen again until the gig. They are then collected immediately at the end of her set. I don't know if they're the original motown charts, but they certainly looked old enough. The gig was loads of fun and wierdly, the whole groove, tempo etc. can be derived from her tambourine which she always plays. This is definitely an exception to the rule regarding singists armed with percussion ordnance. Quote
scalpy Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Great way to start a Saturday. What a band, although the fade outs are a bit weird. Quote

Great player and could read anything straight off. About 20 years ago he tried to muscle in on one of my bands. Luckily he was so good, the singer was too scared/nervous/intimidated to work with him and I kept the gig! Fortunately, for me, I don't scare anyone with my talent!! Edit. Erwin MD'd for Martha, along with many other acts. http://www.erwinkeiles.com/artist-list.html Quote
Dan Dare Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Notice JJ is using a Bassman rig (same as he used on the Marvin Gaye live clip that's been on here). Love the way the band members are obviously enjoying themselves. Martha can certainly sing, can't she? Magic. Quote
scalpy Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Had another listen to this. We hear some much live stuff that's meant to have a Motown vibe, and it's great when they do their Motown impression, but there's something so great about hearing the real thing. Especially the tiny bass break at 7:45. But throughout he's got the band by the balls, it's so taut. Wonderful. Quote
