Pestie Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Morning Basschatters I need help. The band l'm in have decided to do the Blues Brothers version of She Caught the Katy for a gig next Saturday. Does anybody have a simplified tab for this please? I have the full Duck Dunn version in Bass Player mag but it's too much to learn in the time available. He does every section differently. I need to be able to nail it quickly, l have just about got the first verse and bridge that Duck plays but the arrangement is quite difficult for me, All help gratefully received, Cheers Mike (Pestie) Quote

BobVbass Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) Probably one of my favourite bass lines - DD at his finest - you could probably hash it with a Johnny be Goode blues walk for the main parts if you're really desperate -good luck and enjoy it though Edited June 18, 2017 by BobVbass Quote
mrtcat Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 It's a lovely bass part. Did some work with a BB tribute act a few years back and she caught the Katy and who's making love were the two standout songs for me although there's not really a bad song in a BB set. Quote
Pestie Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 Thank you, l'm struggling but slowly getting there! Quote
AndyTravis Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Did this for a birthday do a while back, it's a tricky one. I had an app at the time to slow tracks down, which helped as I only had a night to learn it. I reckon rather than focus on getting it bang on (there are a few twiddly bits in there), work on that feel and you'll be fine. Quote
bazzbass Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 try to learn it properly to do justice to Duck's gorgeous bassline now where is my Blues Brothers CD?..... Quote
Pestie Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Thank you all. I'm just about there but it is a tricky one indeed! Quote
bazzbass Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 just a heads up, a song like this does not always sound so good without a horn section, depending on how you play it Quote
gapiro Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Can you read? If so just read it! http://dodgebass.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/she-caught-the-katy-0102091.pdf Quote
bazzbass Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 I mainly pluck with fingers but any Duck Dunn bassline needs to be played with a pick. It just sounds right. Quote
