Give me some ideas

I know I have a tendency to be a bit stuck in my ways, so I thought I'd see if I can make a change. I've had my Aria SB 1000 for over 30 years now, and I love it. It has occurred to me though that there might be modern alternatives worth a look. So, given that I love the SB, the way it feels and the way it sounds, and I also love my Wal fretless, give me some ideas for a bass that might replace my Aria. I don't do 5 string, don't like them.

So what you got?

Now then, if I were running a music shop, I'd ask a few astute questions:

What sort of music are you playing?

What's your budget?

Anything you don't like? (pointy, sunbursts, Fenders, etc.)

Active/passive?

Desired pickup configurations
And so on.

Your request is a little too open...

From what you've said, Music Man, Overwater and Alembic spring to mind first, though replacing that Aria sounds hard given the love you seem to have for it.

This bass is lovely, and Andy is a great guy

There are cheaper Alembic models too though.

Checking out Bass Direct and The Gallery websites would be good. Better still, Mark at Bass Direct would have his views.

Better basses? Mike Lull, Sadowsky, Lakland, Shuker, ACG, Overwater. But really it sounds like you're bored. . . . do you gig?

You've got a bass you've loved for 30 years and a Wal. . . . apart from a Precision you don't need another bass.

Looking at your sig, though, I could suggest upgrading your amps and cabs.

I've got several music stands thanks, Hiram. Some play better than others!

With regard to upgrading amps/cabs, to what end? I have a sound from the rig that I'm happy with, and the different sounds from the basses give me the variety I need.

I do gig, maybe I m bored. As far as budget goes, I don't really mind. I thought about a fretted Wal to match the fretless, but that did seem a tad extravagant! Maybe an Alembic never played one but who knows? I know one thing, the Aria isn't going anywhere! Love it too much

The end that, while you seem happy about all your gear and sound, you still seem to want to buy "something" more.

Rather than us throwing suggestions around. . . what problem have you got that you think more gear would fix?

Silly question maybe, but have you tried Jazz and/or Precision basses? ;)
