lowlandtrees
I bought an ATM 350 clip on mic so that I could use it on both my tenor sax and double bass. It works great on the sax but virtually no volume on the bass. I have it through an ART pre amp using phantom power. The sound is ok I think but volume before feedback is very disappointing. I have worked on placement etc. I have only used back line amps EADoubler/wizzy 12 and a Roland bass cube 12. Have not tried it through the PA. should I be looking at another pre amp? keeponehandloose
you should be looking for another type of pickup....
dodge_bass
Mic only with double bass is really problematic. You've better off just using a pickup or up blending a mic with the pickup to add some 'woodiness to it. With an amp As well you are just asking for feedback. If you insist on this route then you'll need to buy a decent EQ / pre-amp with a least one notch filter so you can start to isolate problematic frequencies. You might consider an F-deck as well (search this forum) and a bass specific mic. Good luck....
lowlandtrees
Apologies...I meant to mention that I want to use the mic in addition to a pick up. I already use a very nice wing pick up that goes through a headway pre. I just feel that it does not give me enough woodiness. I am trying to achieve the impossible of course. Does the fdeck have an xlr input?
