I find it amusing that rock 'n' roll, wild, rebellious music (:)) is so conservative in its choice of instruments. Caveat : only based on 3 hours of viewing so far!

Pretender bass player had an interesting rig - two Ampegs with one 410 each, and a little Portaflex that didn't seem to be mic'ed up.

....just watching his full set now.

Mind-blowing. What a fantastic artist. Band is just superb.

Such a change from the norm I've seen so far, with every rhythm section doing the same old.

Humble Yamaha TRBX 304 or 504 being used by Songhoy Blues.

TRBX504. It's the only time I've seen someone on a big stage playing an instrument like what I have owned :)

Odd though, the guy left the plastic bit that tells you which control is which.

One of the sisters of First Aid Kit was using a couple of Hofners and a Fender Mustang (not at the same time I might add). And a nice sounding set up through a Fender rig

Possibly a Sire Jazz in the background with Craig David ?

Yep, spotted that too. Great sound (y)

Katy Perry's bassist on a black jazz of some sort, maple neck. Some tasty fills on California Girls :)

I noticed more Rics this year and more Jazz basses. Definately spotted a Sire and the most exotic spot so far is Julio Hernandez with Barry Gibb playing a Nordstrand bass, looks wicked.

Ok, not basses but guitars. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (!) had 3 guitarists playing odd shaped guitars (Danelectro, Vox, etc) that had extra frets between certain notes so they could play some quarter-steps. For some songs they all switched to regular guitars with the front man on 12-string. Very odd, never seen this before, as the guitars appeared to be different makes I can only assume these were custom mods?

Edit: Yup, this sheds some light on the subject:

I'm here and I'm seeing far more Jazzes on the smaller stages.
[/quote]I stand corrected. I just wish one of the big acts would buck the trend and turn up with a dead posh bass.

Ah, I've just heard them on the radio, been intrigued by the microtonal weirdness and looked them up. At first I thought they might be using an electric Saz or something like that.

Just been watching King Gizzard... I have some of their albums so curious to see how they did live. I assume all their guitars are the same manufacturer as they all have that weird fret arrangement?

Yes, very tasty. And the basses weren't too bad either.
