Cato Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Chic are absolutely nailing it at Glasto. I'm watching it live (hopefully uninterrupted by presenters) on iplayer, but I think it's also on BBC2. Quote
ryan0583 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Watching it too. The guy on bass is incredible! Jerry Barnes apparently. Quote
steantval Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Just watching it on BBC2. Awesome tight band , real quality musicians. Female vocalists - whow, I'm pretty sure they are the two original ones. Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Absolutely killing it! But who we would win in a pie eating contest between the drummer and bass player? Quote
Agwin Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Disco couldn’t be further removed from my usual cup of tea if it tried but, my God, this is sheer class! Quote
bassace Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Wow! The Americans have to come over and show us how to do it. So tight. Quote
thodrik Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I'm watching it too. Some utterly class playing. Quote
crag42 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Oh no the bass player is slapping a solo!!!! Where's the MK haters? Quote
Don't worry yourself, I'm here. My wife is watching the Nile Rogers set at the moment...while couldn't perticularly care less about Chic, the bass playing is exemplary. Quote
You know, I love Chic. But although the band is indeed mostly killing it I really wish someone would cut Jerry's thumb off. He embodies a type of player that many bass players seem to want to be but which doesn't interest me at all. Horrible glassy bass sound and, for me, overplaying in the context of what I love about the original band. Sorry! Quote
Cato Posted June 25, 2017 Author Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) There's something utterly joyous about watching older performers/bands, who must know their golden age is over, going out and not only winning over that massive crowd but absolutely slaying it. Best Glasto set I've watched this year. Edited June 25, 2017 by Cato Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Holy flip. Good times . Hope my neighbours LIKE chic cos they are sure as hell hearing it right now. What a great sound!!! Quote
darkandrew Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Nile Funkin' Rodgers! Yeah! Sorry for that outburst, normal behaviour will now resume. Edited June 25, 2017 by darkandrew Quote
MikanHannille Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Oohhmmppffff. Jerry Barnes' tone is incredible! Quote
Deedee Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Nike Rodgers is a legend - simples. He also has the benefit of not being the vocalist so he can have a great band and put on a great show, despite his years (unlike Barry Gibb). His guitar playing is still just as awesome as ever. Edited June 26, 2017 by Deedee Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I think Jerry is bringing his own thing to it. He knows he isn't Bernard. I think his tone is right on the money, and giving the crowd something to dig. Quote
mep Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Someone call the police. Chic have Just stolen the show. This was even better than their last performance here. Mark Radcliffe summed it up saying he would gladly pay to come to Glastonbury just to watch that guy play bass. Stonking stuff. Quote
lowdown Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Too good for Glastonbury. Those old folks are going places... Very enjoyable. Edited June 26, 2017 by lowdown Quote
