Heathen!

To be quite honest my first preference is ebony, then rosewood. I'm going straight to hell, aren't I?

Interesting that the 700 series basses have active electronics but the twice the price pro series is only passive? They do look nice though!

I'm not quite sure why Yamaha seem to be so reluctant to put maple board on their basses. They're really missing a trick there.

Ahem.

oh I know about those but I was referring more to their high end models. Other than their Attitude series of course which seem to exclusively feature maple boards.

They all look a bit 'meh' to me, especially compared to the previous series. Just seem to have slightly less character than before, a bit like a lot of modern cars all look the same now, designed by committee.

Reminded me of the Top Gear episode where they re-enact the Peugeot board meeting for designing new Peugeots :D

Id be keen to buy, but i would like to try first.

I have a 405 yamaha at the minute and its just about perfect in feel and balance.

Im wondering would a set of better pups be a wiser spend.

Anyone played a new fiver yet ?

Don't the original pups have weird screw locations which makes swapping pups more cosmetic?

Just watched the Stereophonics at Kendal Calling and Richard Jones is playing a new BB. It looks like a passive one, a high end model I would guess.

Picked up a BB424x yesterday and love it! Would take a BB1024x over these new ones any day

Have you tried a new one?

Nope, simply going on looks alone. I'd try a new one for sure but the older models have a certain appeal about them which I don't feel on the newer ones.

Just noticed price of the bb734a has gone up even before they reach the uk. Now over £800! I have the old bb1200s so will be interested to see how they compare.

According to Peter Hook the BB734a is very good and compares favourably to the 1200s. And he doesn't mince his words. Oh... and they aren't due in to the UK until the end of September.
