Effects pedal footswitch stopper/disabler? Ideas?

Ok, bit of a weird one... maybe something obvious I'm not thinking of...

I sometimes accidentally hit switches on some of my 'always on' pedals thus turning them off...

Now, I could space my pedals out more (obviously) but I'm really happy with my board so I'd just rather temporarily disable the ones I don't need to turn on/off during the set.

I've tried rubber grolsch seals (strap locks) which work ok but they're not perfect... I was wondering if anyone else had come up with a decent solution?

Ideally I'm thinking something I can clip on and take off easily

Any ideas?

I use a zip tie round the shaft of the footswitch - as it's hard plastic rather than rubber (like the Grolsch grommet) it doesn't compress and helps with my clumsy tap-dancing no end. I had to try a few different sizes to get the right width but it's solved the problem for me. Not really re-usable (you have to cut it off to remove it) but they cost pennies so not really an issue.

YMMV of course. Hope that helps.

i also use zip ties, they only work on true bypass pedals (so they remember when theyre on and off) not the buffered bypass ones which revert to off when powered up

i just snip them off if i need to change anything about

Yeah, that's probably gonna be the one! I suppose the reusable angle isn't a massive issue and it's not so much the cost, it's more that I'm sure there's something obvious out there that'll clip on and off easily (like the clothes peg idea but smaller and more subtle) if I do need to quickly change something.

In my head some kind of cable clip would do it but it's a case of finding the right size/design...

Toothpaste cap?
Bottle cap? The one on a fruit shoot type drink should do it

That's interesting actually, I went straight to the thinking of "I need to stop this button as it presses down, so something around the shaft will disable it" but yeah covering it up would do the job too of course... I'll have a think on that front also, cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

I ended up going for the cable clips, they fit really well, tight enough that they wont fall off but still easy to clip on & off, if I do need to get to the switch during a gig.
