Matt_UK
Hi guys Just saw this on Gumtree, a really cheeeeap Jazz with little information: http://www.gumtree.com/london/91/30458191.html Was just wondering if anyone could work out the age of the bass (through the inlays, fender logo, truss rod, any other logos etc), as its rather inexpensive (and potentially a bargain if its an original vintage) As I dont have much knowledge of Jazz's, I thought I would rack more knowledgeable people's brains here Thanks in advance guys! budget bassist
Looks like a bit of a bargain if it's as old as it looks. Ask the seller for the serial number and check it against the ones on the fender site.

Musky
It looks like a 75 RI to me, despite the rust on some of the parts - the headstock markings are wrong for an original 70's model. Not sure exactly how much they go for (I don't pay much attention to Jazz basses), but I'd guess £320 isn't too far off the mark for a Jap model. Kev
not sure, the body colour looks quite aged as well as the hardware, it could well be an older model, certainly worth inquiring about!

Musky
not sure, the body colour looks quite aged as well as the hardware, it could well be an older model, certainly worth inquiring about!
It's quite simple to age hardware and a little button polish will darken the finish. The tuners, tug bar holes and logo don't match up date-wise - though Fender are quite well known for their oddities - but the real killer is the silver/grey serial number. 70's versions never had that. deaver
Not heard anything back yet. I'm pretty sure though that this is a Jap 75 reissue (which is what I've been looking for) - it will be a few years old hence the tarnish Edited November 2, 2008 by deaver
JohnnyLightyear
I went to see this one last week- it is a reissue apparently of a '66 although I'm not up on my fender production dates- I think it was made in the late 80's. I decided not to buy it since the condition wasn't as excellent as advertised- a few dings in the neck and a large crack in the lacquer, plus rust on the screws and hardware generally- looked like it'd spent some time outside! As well as that it needs a good set up as the action is pretty high and when you factor all that in it seemed like less of a bargain! Will make a nice bass for someone though!
