gafbass02 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I’m all about the active these days, after years on passive. I did break out my jazz once, and my band’s engineer told me never to bring a passive again 😅 I’ve decided just to leave the SR300 as it is now. It’s fine, just not as good as the others, but then it’s also much cheaper than the others 1 1 Quote
Al Krow Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Having traded my lovely Ibby SR1825 for a Berg NXT cab back in 2021, I've come to realise how much I'm missing it and how fab and relatively untiring having 16.5mm string spacing on a 5 string bass is! But trying to find an SR Premium 5er used has been quite the task! Think I may finally be about to strike lucky, yaay! 3 Quote
Woodinblack Posted October 2, 2024 Author Posted October 2, 2024 Normally there are loads around. Although I have got rid of a few of my ibbys I would never get rid of the 1605, and my Maruszczyk has a neck based on its neck, my new OLP has slightly less than 16.5 and the bongo has 17mm so they all work for me! Al Krow Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 (edited) NBD - Ibanez 30TH5PE Just arrived via an ex band mate now living up in Edinburgh - was collection only from there, which would have ruled it out for me, but a stroke of luck that I had a former bandmate who has relocated to that same city, and is also often back down in London with work. biro Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 I have the satinwood version and it’s my favourite bass of all time. Great acquisition! 2 Quote

Oh nice, that's high praise from you, indeed! There was some mention that only 15 each of the 4 and 5 string Premium editions were made available in the USA, so no idea what that number would have been in the UK? Guess I just struck lucky to find one, particularly in such good condition! 1 Quote
2pods Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 May have been mine at one point. I've forgotten who I sold it to, though Edinburgh seems to ring a bell 1 Quote

2pods Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I honestly shouldn't try to speed read these days. I'm getting as blind as a bat I obviously hadn't finished paying for it at that point, so they were holding out on the B string 1 Quote

2pods Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 It was one of the limited 30th Anniversary jobs, with a wenge fingerboard and cocobolo top. I bought it new from Gear4Music. They also had an identical 5 string in at the time. Quote
Paulhauser Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 In the middle is my fairly recent acquisition beteeen my two other Prestiges. The bass in question is a quite obscure MIJ SRMS5 Prestige from ‘22. Even though I follow Ibanez and normally I am quite up to date with their offerings this totally went unnoticed. Not that it is a surprise as it was (is?) offered only on selected markets with limited information (reviews or videos) and mine is the only one i saw in the wild. 5 Quote
Woodinblack Posted October 28, 2024 Author Posted October 28, 2024 Oh thats nice - I don't think that Ibanez bother with many of the prestiges outside Japan, but that is a really nice one, would like a fan fret prestige. Quote

Should I be surprised that we're both into Ibanez as well as Spector?...or that the quality of your herd definitely out does mine for both! 😅 Quote

I saw one listed om ebay out of Japan a while back, so I know of it, but never seen one in the flesh. Nice bass. https://ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/SRMS5 Info for anyone curious. Quote

I think it was for the domestic and the European market. For how much they push the fanfret models in their Premium and lower categories it is a bit of illogical not to do at least some models as it is a missed opportunity in the Prestige range (i'd pay for a 6 string SR Presige FF) 13 hours ago, Al Krow said: Should I be surprised that we're both into Ibanez as well as Spector?...or that the quality of your herd definitely out does mine for both! 😅 🙂 It was an Ibanez SR bass that got me into bass playing and while Spector is the love of my life I always had a sweet spot for SRs as can be seen in the pic. As for the herd, no worries, you''ll be getting there eventually 🙂 12 hours ago, crazycloud said: I saw one listed om ebay out of Japan a while back, so I know of it, but never seen one in the flesh.
