I've got Wizard 84's In my CV jazz and to my ears they're a bit too mellow sounding, not getting that 'Honk' from the bridge with neck just rolled off as much as I'd like so thinking of going down the Custom shop 60's route. Is there much difference between the 84's and the custom shops?

I really like that nasally sound from the bridge and I'm not really hearing It from the 84's

Anyone had both?

Any help appreciated!

You get that nasal tone with the bridge pup in 70's position. With all newer Fenders (clones) they just make 60's pup position. Hence: less honk. The pickup cannot change that.

You can still get great honk with the bridge pup in 60s position, Jaco did after all...I definitely get this with the Bareknuckle 60 HF in my 62 AVRI Jazz.

The Wizard 84s are overwound and therefore a darker tone, described here by Hot Rod Pickups who took over from Wizard http://www.hot-rodpickups.com/jb-84-jazz-bass-pickup-565-p.asp

Problem solved!

Digging around In me box of bits I found an Entwistle JBXN bridge pickup I bought for a project PJ I never got around to using, Banged It In and Instant honk!
