Looking for a beautiful and unique bass that's compact, light-weight, perfectly balance and super-easy to play?

This mint SWB-1 with flamed maple top and matching headstock was a special, extra-cost order to match the one-off bass that Scott himself was playing at the time. I had it professionally set up with my preferred D'Addario EXL220S 040-095 nickel rounds and my luthier made a new 'antique bone' nut to suit.

The other special thing about this bass is the one-off 'gizmo' I designed to fix the awkward positioning/balance on the strap by shifting the top button to the f12 'sweet-spot'. This works a treat, is made from light-weight aluminium and looks like a professional job with its black powder-coated finish. (I put a lot of thought and time in to designing something that's quickly removable, won't mark the body and requires negligible modification to the bass itself. The top fixing is the original strap button screw/hole so the only addition is a small screw hole in the back.)

The only reason I'm selling is that I decided to buy a Maruszczyk soon after and the SWB-1 hasn't seen any action since. Please note that I've priced it to reflect the work done because I want it to go to someone who needs and values the mod's. Both bass and case are as new.

PS Just spotted that bass in case shot was taken while gizmo was away for powder coating - it still fits perfectly with gizmo attached.

If I'd had a bonus from work this year, this bass would already be mine - and if my finances looked to be better any time soon, it would be on hold for me haha!

GLWTS Mike, still super gutted to be missing out on this one.

I wondered that too - and decided there isn't. Thought long and hard about making an adjustable prototype that would fit the SWB-1, SG and similar. Trouble is you'd need to simplify/minimalise the design for production, which would call up complex shapes that are beyond the scope of a hobbyist like me. The alternatives then would either be to get tooled up or sub-contract stuff out - and the size of the market/expected price point wouldn't justify it.

So this really is a one-off - but thanks for asking :)

Lovely bass and I don't want to go too far off-topic, however, I'm pretty sure that there is a niche but serious market for a bespoke ergo/gizmo. If somebody was able to fabricate a tailored/custom, partially adjustable version to fit Alembic small bodied short-scale basses, i'd be willing to pay a realistic price (to reflect the design work and hand-crafting involved). Improving the balance, positioning and playability of an expensive bass is well-worth the additional outlay - to me at least. Scrumpymike, I think your idea is brilliant and I applaud and envy your skills. Of course, any version for Alembics would have to involve no new holes, but the strap pin at the heel offers opportunities for securing any device. A really practical and beautifully executed solution! I wish Alembic had thought of this

Thanks for your comments everybody. Yesterday I got the SWB-1 out for the first time since I changed my amps & cabs. All I can say is that if somebody buys the Rascal or Hohner Jack I've also got FS, I'll be pulling this one double-quick. Not only is it such an easy player, but it has a great core tone. Scott W told me a sound engineer reckoned that his SWB-1 was one of the best basses he'd ever recorded.

I played this bass a couple of days ago and it is the easiest bass I have played since trying out a mate's Alembic Stanley Clarke a while back. There are two contrasting Scott Whitley vids that show how versatile these basses are. I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread Mike?!
