patch006
Hi All, looking for some advice / opinions on electronics for best sound in a fretless bass. I have a custom made fretless that has some semour duncan bass lines ( i think quarter pounders ) in it. It has two volume and one tone pot, it is a passive system. The pots seem really loose and don't feel like you have any resistance when turning. My guitar tech seems to think they are quite delicate high fi ones ( think the bass was a bit of a prototype ) Opinions! Do you prefer passive on fretless? what pots would you recommend to replace? cheers all Patch
franzbassist
If your bass has a good core tone I'd stay passive and just upgrade the pots. If you decide to go active ACG/East setups are very good, as are Noll and Glockenklang.
Happy Jack
Electronics can have frets?
BigRedX
ACG EQ01. Personally I wouldn't bother with anything else unless you were to get an ACG bass with the DFM pre-amp fitted.
Chienmortbb
If you have the space, and can do DIY electronics, passiinwind has a three band that can be used onboard or as a pedal. Full details are on the other place https://www.talkbass.com/wiki/pw3b-lpf-open-source-onboard-preamp/ It is offered under a creative commons licence so you can build it for your own use and purchase the PCBs form OSHpark. It is a gift to the Bass community and Charlie (passinwind) makes no money from it,
