What are those 'hair bobble' thugs called on a bass?!

Just another tool we can use. As I often say: if I thought that playing bass with a kitchen utensil would create the sound I want, then I would.

But as with any gear, it should be used as an addition to your technique, never a substitute!

Haters gonna hate whatever, so I say: "Be proud and say that it's part of your technique." I choose to use this tool and I don't give a crap if people don't think I'm a great bassist. They're probably right anyway, but I'm enjoying myself.

They'd be wrong about that. You should be in the dictionary under 'awesome' :)

Did the OP really mean to write thugs in the title?

Probably: No
Everyone hopes: Yes

Yeah. I didn't get these either until I had to do a line which required tapping and slapping in close succession. You can't mute unlness you have 3 hands. It just knocks out the back harmonics and keeps the sound cleaner. I wouldnt use it in general but it just a neck mute instead of a bridge mute.

I have one on my Jazz, but apart from eliminating some "finger on new rounds" noise when recording, it doesn't do much else, apart from get people asking me "what's that hair bob thing?" hehe

Thanks Delberthot, for your response to the "hair bobble" thing. I have been playing bass with my fingers for a similar number of decades and have never needed anything else. Amen! Thought I had fallen into a coma and missed something. Lol :-)
