4001 shaped cases

Gator GPE-TSA is what I bought for my - now sold -4001.

Many generic cases won't fit a Ricky, and it took some research and questioning (on 'that' forum) to get the right one.

It's not a perfect fit (slight bit of movement, nothing to worry about), and I believe it's the one to go for.

My 4001 may have gone, but I kept my case as it's a great product!

I thought it was the worst excuse for a hard case I've come across! Exposed bolts, foam interior not glued in properly, not to mention that I could flex it with one finger. Compared to a Hiscox it was a joke. Hopefully that means that I just got a lemon!

Just wish Hiscox would make the standard case a couple of cm longer.

I had cases made for my 4003 and Jazz by this guy: https://sites.google.com/site/kinghamcases/home. They ain't cheap but I've been regularly gigging with both for around 10 years and they are still like new. The company is Kingham Cases if the link doesn't work :) he specialises in making cases for some really odd-shaped classical instruments. You'll see the 4003 case under "stringed instruments", just click on the first image to see the gallery.

Most of the Japanese copies (you know, the ones we're not allowed to talk about that came from Fugi Gen Gakki and so on) were sold with a fitted, lightweight hard case that does ... erm ... exactly what it says on the case.

Many of these copies + cases are still around, so long as you don't try to buy them on Basschat.

Assuming a faithful copy, you could try to find a Japanese copy + case, then sell the bass.

Having said all that, the hard case for my Iban*z (I trust I've disguised that sufficiently) is one step removed from useless because, being fitted, it's no better at being leant against things (chairs, bass cabs, drummers) than the bass itself - all it wants to do is fall over.

when i was considering a ricky i was told that the larger Hiscox case would fit,

they publish lots of useful dimensions as well so should be easy to work out if it'll fit.

Consider a mono soft case. More than adequate protection, certainly offers more cushioning and shock absorption than any ABS case :)

I once tried a Mono for a Ric and it didn't fit, so don't buy without trying.

I've had a hiscox case for my 4001 for a long time. It was the only one I could find big enough

Similar to the Hiscox case I have for my 4001. There is only one sticker with any sort of reference on mine. It reads: STD-EBP

Ah yes, when I said Hiscox, I was referring to the Lite Flite ones.
