Can my Darklass Vintage Deluxe with Direct Output reliably replace a DI box when going direct to PA live?

Yep. Will do the same job, just the Darkglass has plenty more bells and whistles!

Thank you, seemed to make sense to me but I hear so much about the necessity for a dedicated DI, I have a MXR M81 which does the job very well too

Many venues like to use their own DI, rather than a pedal, not really a problem as long as their DI is after the pedal/before the amp in the chain.

and lots of engineers insist on placing their DI in front of your pedals. Resist this as you lose all your effects in the FOH this way.
