This is a solid body Hofner bass, featuring the same staple pickups and control plate as the considerably more expensive violin basses from the same era. The bass is in good vintage condition - all electronics work perfectly and the pickups sounds fantastic. There is some light checking front and back, as well as some small knocks and chips peppered around. The larger chips I have tried to show in the photos. Obviously none of this effects the playability of the bass at all, and considering it's age it's in pretty good nick. As far as I can tell, all parts are original. It's a little shortscale bass (seriously not that much taller than a Fender Strat) and it's loads of fun to play. Tone wise it's actually pretty versatile. The neck pickup gives you loads of vintage low end thump, whilst the bridge pickup really adds some clarity and definition - managing to avoid the somewhat muddy sounds that some vintage instruments have. The bass is currently strung with some very old roundwounds and sounds great with a pick. 60's Hofner's are sometimes tricky to accurately date as they didn't print clear serial numbers on their instruments until later on, but using the pot codes (454) I have dated it to the 45th week of 1964 ([url="http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/factfiles/bodydate/potcode.html"]http://www.vintageho...te/potcode.html[/url]).
