Same song, two different bassline interpretations. Which do you prefer?

Assuming that the standard is consistent because I stopped both part way through I thought both players were doing workable lines. The fact that they are play-alongs makes it difficult to know but I suspect both players would sound better if the band was live and there was interaction.

It would interest me greatly to hear both players play along to a L42 tune like Man;

Funny - 1 sounds like he is the more accomplished player - not because of all the slappy bippy sh*t, just because he seems more attuned to the groove, but 2 has a better grasp of what is going on in the tune for my money. Off to listen to the original and see who got closest.... I'll be back.

Yep 2) Hands down. 1) Needs to actually listen to what the rest of them are playing instead of showing his ass.
Sorry if this offends anyone but I actually find that sort of "look at me I'm a Youtube star" stuff irritating.

While I prefer the tone on the finger-style version (the second one), the guy's face between 30-45 seconds represents everything I just detest about cover bands; that smugness and grimacing, the mistake at about 3'20" followed by the slapping get-out and wry smile. He didn't write that line, he's just copying it. I'd like to see him do something on an original piece.

Rant over. Sorry.

What else is there..? :huh:

Prefer the second one but I could see the point of playing the verse fingerstyle and slapping the chorus.

PS. anyone getting upset about YouTube clips of people playing bass to cover tunes really needs to get out more...

Couldn't see number 1 (only number 2) on my iphone. Could see both fine on my computer at home.

I read something a while back about bedroom guitarists...they don't gig, they don't write their own material, they just play over backing tracks and video themselves until they get a decent take, then push it up onto You Tube.

Look, I know the above is a massive generalisation, but there's a lot of truth in this. I'd just like to see these guys playing something original rather than gurning their way through someone elses lines.
