I wouldn't want to use a metal pick. Isn't there a risk of scratching the bass with a too hard pick?

I used to use a metal one (brass iirc) when I was interested in 6 string shredding. It kind of glances off the string making picking easier and gives a sharper attacking sound. Picking correctly doesn't touching anything 'cept the strings so your guitar is safe. Strumming with one would knacker up your axe for sure.

But now that I'm a bass player I don't need a pick at all.
