Question for Fender experts!

Does anybody know what year Fender introduced white perloid pickguards for basses? Can't find anything on t'interweb.

They seemed to kick in around 64/65. See them on the mustangs etc.

I don't recall white pearloid being available before the 90's other than on Mustangs (as mentioned above), could be wrong though.

Agree with comments above. Lots of white pickguards in the late 60's had pearloid backs, as they had a huge surplus of the sheet material. Most Telecaster bass's have pearloid back white guards, or did before they perished.

Surplus was probably because they realised it looked awful, and didn't widen the use across the range.
