ped
Luis Cheul https://www.wingbass...is-cheul-chile/ I stole some ideas for my bass. Here are some pics of it before and during GK install. This was all done yesterday and John said he's let me know when the easy bit - the connections (most are mini plugs so not much soldering) - are all made and it's ready to collect! ped
I also note how most people with these use them for soloing and so forth, which is cool - but I'm not really a soloist. I find it a great groove machine.
ped
And here it is!! It's a bit dark to get any proper pictures so this instagrammy type effort will have to suffice for now. The install is really tidy (makes my home made effort look a right bodge!) and playing synths on this is just excellent. The layout worked really well. The cavity is absolutely packed - John took some pics I think. Because of the depth of some of the circuits and connectors plus the larger brain unit the layout had to be chosen really carefully and I wasn't 100% sure it would fit like this but it turns out it did, just! The knobs are (from let to right) magnetic volume, magnetic tone, GK assignable (usually tone, wave shape, filter frequency or channel mix) then the two buttons which depending on the patch do things like engage a polyphonic tuner, mute, up/down patches, turn effects on or off or tap tempo for delay. Then you've got the output and still a 1/4" output for backup (mag pickup also feeds through 13 pin GK) You can also see the home made extra thin strap here a bit, it's about 2 inches thick. Secured with rubber Grolsch style washers. I'll post better pics in the next few days. Cheers!
CameronJ
It almost looks photoshopped! Nice work! Edit: I've just scrolled up to compare and it actually looks better than the photoshop mockups. alyctes
Ooooh... definitely going on the bucket list. Score for le general ! I saw this when people were talking about it before. It still looks uncomfortable to play, to me, but I'd be happy to be convinced. Edited September 16, 2017 by alyctes
I wasn't sure what it would be like so took a punt, and I was amazed how comfy it is. The left corner sits nicely in your leg and it balances in the lap really well. On a strap it's fine though I might experiment with moving the strap button a bit further down the neck although seated the strap tension feels good as it is, with the strap kind of holding the head up. Musashimonkey
Fantastic work Ped, a great idea perfectly implemented. It will be interesting to see if Wingbass offer this as a custom option on their new builds.

ped
What an interesting bass! So it's tuned BEADG an octave up, is that correct? I've wondered about a 5-string cut down to the 5th fret, giving EADGC (with or without the C, to be honest) at a much shorter scale. Seems like a handy way to make a travel bass, and without the need for electronics to create the lower notes.
Yeah that's right. To be honest I forget it's an octave up - it sounds huge. I think Wing make a bass a bit like the one you describe - have a look on their site. I've never seen one though, they're such a small company I don't think they have any UK distributor. Not yet anyway. I played my normal basses for a bit last week after not touching them for a couple of weeks at least. It didn't feel weird at all given the similar spacing and feel plus the same strings (different gauge). I went back to the wing and it felt great - tbh I'm starting to think it's becoming my go to bass, certainly for the type of playing I do, bumming around the house in my pants. ped
I’ve just installed another strap pin at about the 9th fret. It now balances really nicely when standing (keeping the playing area centred). The original pin at the end is great for playing seated. I attached the TC polytune temporarily in the body but think I’ll leave it, it fits so well and is really useful! Rich
Cool. I like the idea of the semi-permanent tuner attachment. This wee thing is turning out to be a proper Swiss army knife (meant as a compliment ).
