gjones
I had an operation for carpal tunnel a few years ago. I had to turn down a Hogmanay gig with a local band, as I needed time to recover. It was a really good payer and luckily I got my brother in law to do the gig (he's a good bass player and knew all the songs). I'd hoped that gig would have opened up the chance for some big money gigs. But after I let them down, I never heard from that band again. Soooo.....the moral of the story is, always do the gig if you possibly can. If you don't you may regret it.
TimR
The hand wasn't x-rayed, they didn't seem that interested in it, although they x-rayed other bits of me.
Get it X-Rayed and if you've done something serious go and see a specialist. If you're serious about your bass playing and do long term dammage just for a pub gig, you'll regret it. Burns-bass
Don't risk long-term damage for the sake of one gig.
Les
I haven't spoken to them as I did manage to do the practice last night with them. The pain was bearable when I was playing but it feels like its taken a backward step today.
Why on earth haven't you spoken to the band ? This in an all hands to the pump scenario. They may need to swap/drop stuff that will cause you problems and indeed take on the lifting and carrying duties that may exacerbate your problems. Any reasonable band will be happy to assist rather than cock a gig up surely ?
Damonjames
Ok, firstly have you had the injury assessed?? If you have, what is the issue?? If you have bruising from the accident, if it were me, I'd just do the gig. Simplify where you can, turn down a bit so if you do slip, it will be less noticeable. Let's face it, it's only bass, 99% of people including your band will even notice if you do slip a little despite how important we think we are 😂 I have just had a similar scenario as I am currently suffering a wrist tendon injury, from either over doing it playing gigs without sufficient practice, or from all the DIY around the house at the minute or a combination of the two. I was advised to not do either for 3-4 weeks but had / gigs to do before our summer break over August. I used a wrist brace, ibuprofen (until it gave me the runs), strapping and ice to do the gigs and have run the risk. It is entirely your call, but your order of options should be do the gig, get a dep and cancel as a last option
mep
If you are up for it then simplify the set list abd baselines. Keep it simple and tight. Let us know what happens

Adrenochrome
Can you glue or strap any bits of your hand that need it? Painkillers? Sit on a stool to take some weight of your fretting hand? Get help loading in/out?

Les
As a lot are suggesting simplify the bass lines. I've been doing that for 35 years
